Number Of Kenyan Men Choosing Vasectomy Doubles In One Year- Report

The number of men who have undergone sterilization vasectomy has more than doubled in just one year according to the 2023 Economic Survey report by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).

Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy by cutting or sealing the tubes that carry a man’s sperm.

According to the report, which examined the use of modern contraceptives in health facilities from 2018 to 2022, the number of men who chose vasectomy increased to 557 from 248 the previous year.

It went on to say that 334 men had vasectomy procedures in 2020, a significant decrease from 658 in 2018 and 646 in 2018.

Other contraceptive methods, such as Family Planning (FP) Injections, remained the most popular method of contraception in 2022, with 2.6 million Kenyans choosing it, followed by Implant Insertions, which had 1.1 million clients.
