Diana Mwikali: Kenyans Mourn Death of County Officer with Physical Disability Who Died During Delivery

Machakos County is mourning the demise of Diana Mwikali, a young lady with a physical disability whose life came to an end during delivery at a renowned private hospital in Nairobi.

Mwikali joined the Machakos County Assembly in February 2022 as a Public Communications Assistant and died a month since getting the job.

She has been hailed as a beautiful flower whose memories will bloom in people’s hearts year after year, with her memory remaining with them forever.

“Mwikali served with a lot of dedication, self-drive, and was an all-time motivator,” Read the eulogy from Machakos county government.

An exclusive interview with friends and colleagues from Women With Disabilities (WWD) reveals that Mwikali experienced problems with blood pressure (BP) during her pregnancy.

Details indicate that as of last month, her BP had been stabilized and she was given double medication with the doctor advising that she be operated upon once she reached 36 weeks.

When the time came, the procedure was cancelled because her pressure had dropped, which prompted medics to extend the period by two more weeks as she was being monitored.

Two days ago, her water broke and she took a taxi from Machakos to Nairobi where she was booked for Caesarian Section (CS) despite her BP having risen due to travelling the long distance.
