Covid-19 Scare As Cop Collapses And Dies At Meru Equity Bank

A police officer guarding Equity Bank’s Makutano Branch in Meru town collapsed and died on Tuesday afternoon leaving those present in panic.

According to North Imenti Sub-County Police Commander Robinson Mboloi, the said cop collapsed and passed on at around 12.30pm inside the bank’s toilet.

Further reports indicate the officer was unwell in the morning and had exhibited symptoms such as vomiting.

“The officer was on duty when he suddenly died at the bank. The cause of death is yet to be established and the body has been removed to the Meru Level Five Hospital Mortuary,” the police boss reported.

The staff and clients at the bank were all in panic mode at the bank hall while the County’s Covid-19 surveillance team turned up in full protective gear and equipment to pick up the body two hours later.

Speaking on his team’s precautionary measure, Meru Public Health Director John Inanga said they were called in to pick up the body as a precautionary measure since the officer’s cause of death was still unknown.

“Due to Coronavirus pandemic, people are afraid of coming in contact with a body. This is why we had to be called in to collect the body,” Dr. Inanga said.

The bank was later on fumigated as the deceased’s samples were taken for testing.

The results are yet to be released.
