Singer Esther Akoth otherwise known as Akothee has been appointed for an advisory role on a government committee tasked with tackling Covid-19.

The Standard on Thursday, August 6, reported that the singer has been selected to join the committee which comprises representatives of 14 counties organized by  the Lake Region Economic Bloc.

The regional bloc comprises Kakamega, Kisumu, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Busia, Bomet, Siaya, Nyamira, Migori, Kisii and Vihiga counties.

It was created in 2018 to drive the development agenda in Western Kenya.

According to the publication which quoted governor Wycliffe Oparanya, the committee will be responsible for mobilizing the necessary resources for combating the virus apart from advising.

“The partial reopening of the economy and cross-border movement of people caused increased Covid-19 infections. This requires more commitment to help fight the virus.

“MobiliZation of critical actors in both public and private sectors is of utmost importance towards mounting an effective regional Covid-19 control plan,” the Kakamega County boss added.
