Arsenal plan to make 55 staff redundant because of the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
This is despite the Gunners’ first-team players and head coach Mikel Arteta agreeing to a 12.5% pay cut in April.
Arsenal’s executive team also agreed to waive more than a third of their salaries over the next 12 months.
However, the club say they now face “more significant and longer-lasting reductions in our revenue than we all hoped”.
The decision has angered fans of the club who are now questioning why the club is paying players so much money while sending away staff.
Here are some of their tweets.
Arsenal firing 55 staff when we're owned by a multi-billionaire, have just made £££ by winning the FA Cup & qualifying for Europe, & pay Mesut Ozil £350k-a-week to sit on his arse, is morally indefensible & not what I expect from a club with our heritage. Shameful decision. pic.twitter.com/ml3ixSyq97

Arsenal players not happy with 55 staff being made redundant. They agreed 12.5% wage cut in April after receiving assurance nobody would lose jobs. Yesterday’s news left squad angry & they plan to raise it with #AFC bosses. With @gunnerblog @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/OWotcinKhh

Arsenal laying off 55 staff. If we assume they're all on avge wage of 28k per year (they won't be) that's saving £1.54 m and that's about a month's wages for Ozil. 55 people getting laid off to pay for a month's wages for one player. What a happy world football is.
