The first lady, Rebecca-Akufo-Addo, and the second lady and wife of the vice president, Samira Bawumia, will be paid monthly by the Ghanaian government in the future.
According to a Ghanaweb article, the decision to pay them came after the government accepted a recommendation by an emolument committee that was authorized by the seventh parliament.
In contrast to past governments, this new arrangement would ensure that the spouses of both Akufo-Addo and Bawumia are compensated.
Earlier reports claimed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had unilaterally chosen to compensate his wife and the wife of his Vice President, Dr Bawumia.
The information minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah has however clarified that the approval was done by the previous parliament.
