A man has left a packed Kakamega magistrates court in stitches after admitting that he stole a cow, in a bid to lure his girlfriend into marriage.

He would later use the money to buy assorted gifts for his sweetheart who hails from Isulu village in Ikolomani, Kakamega County.

The court was told that the suspect raided the home of Jane Shimenga on Wednesday night in his neighboring Burendwa village, and walked away with the cow.

Prosecution led by Dennis Wasilwa, was forced to briefly interrupt the free-for-all drama, asking the court to order a mental assessment on the suspect.

Andati is expected at the Kakamega Referral Hospital for a mental assessment session, after which he will be produced in court on Thursday next week.

Kakamega County and most parts of Western region have experienced a surge in cattle theft, burglary and armed robbery especially in Butere, Ikolomani and Navakholo.
