Osei Kwame “Despite” was born on 2nd February 1962 at Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti Region.

He is one of the most successful and richest businessmen in the history of Ghana. He started his hustle as a petty trader, dealing in music cassettes, padlocks, baby feeding bottles and other merchandise at Dunkwa-Offinso.

After years of struggles in the village to make it in life, he joined some friends to seek greener pastures in Lagos, Nigeria.

Unfortunately for him, he had to return to Ghana in 1983 as part of the 1 million undocumented Ghanaians who were expelled by the Nigerian government aka. Ghana must go!

Upon his return, he started a timber contracting business but failed miserably as his trip into the forest was his last, the timber fell and completely destroyed his chain-saw machine.

That didn’t stop him though, he ventured into the music business with Despite Stores, marketing and distributing audio cassettes all over Ghana.

That was his first real taste of success and has over the years built Despite Stores into the Despite Group of Companies, one of the biggest conglomerates in the country.
