A middle-aged woman from Kaptama Location, Mt Elgon is receiving treatment at the Kitale County Referral Hospital in Trans Nzoia County after she was shot in an alleged case of mistaken identity.
its said the lady who was identified as Phanice chemutai was shot after being mistaken to be the fugitive cop, Carolyne Chemutai Kangogo.
Phanice was shot in the abdomen by Ken Muyundo, a licensed firearm holder, at the Kiminini Market in Trans Nzoia County last night. Medics say she is in a stable condition.
According to a statement recorded at the Kitale police headquarters under OB 26/8/7/2021 at 9:30pm, the shooting was committed by a licenced firearm holder Ken Muyundo at Kiminini.
According to standard newspaper digital, Muyundo, a renowned businessman in Kitale who runs a chain of hotels dubbed Iroko, reported at the station that he had received persistent calls from an unknown woman who asked that they meet in Kiminini.
Muyundo then become suspicious with he caller and reported to the police who later mounted a trap on the said woman to establish her motive.
After reporting the matter, Muyundo then met Ms Chemutai in Kiminini after which he pulled out his Ceska pistol and fired, allegedly to scare the woman whom he thought to be ”lethal, armed and dangerous”.
Muyundo was later arrested by Police in Kitale and he scheduled to be arraign in court over the shooting.
