Media personality Shaffie Weru has disclosed the reasons that led him to be fired from Homeboyz Radio in 2021.
Shaffie Weru together with DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville lost their jobs for remarks regarded as inappropriate by many of their listeners.
They were put on the spot after they victim-shamed a lady who was thrown off the 12th floor of Ambank House by a man she met on social media.
The trio discussed the incident during a show they hosted together and ended up blaming the lady for the misfortunes.
Radio Africa suspended and then fired them for the remarks which caused a great uproar on social media.
Shaffie has however revealed there were bigger and more complicated issues other than his comments.
“The reason I was fired you need to understand was never about the tweets or the people, it was about the companies that were spending money on me because I was a very big presenter. Their customers were the ones attacking me, so they also started attacking the companies.”
Shaffie added that he got fired just two days after he had made a radio comeback following a year-and-a-half mainstream media break.
“It actually happened two days after I got back on radio. I had not been on mainstream radio for like a year and a half, since 2020. Now in 2021 when I got back and did the breakfast show with DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville, that’s when I got fired.”
Regarding the remarks, he said he regrets what he said and wishes he was better informed on the topic.
Losing his job almost got him into depression but he had good solid friends who stood by his side and slowly he got back on his feet.
Although Shaffie has a court case against Radio Africa, he revealed they are in good terms.
