Prezzo Speaks on Living Large, Depression and Joining Mungiki

Legendary rapper, CMB Prezzo has come out to speak of the huddles of depression he was facing in life, a move that saw him join the Mungiki.

The former Big Brother Africa participant legally known as Jackson Ng’echu Makini revealed how he rose to fame through his music and becoming one of the most sought after reality stars in the country.

In an interview with The Play House, the 38 year old revealed that he stayed indoors at his penthouse for a whole year before joining the Mungiki as a result of depression.

Prezzo married his Daisy-now ex-wife (Mama Zari) in a lavish wedding in 2008. A wedding in which he spent money unsparingly.

“We had star-studded wedding. I did not minimize on the budget. So, we got married and moved from the penthouse into a mansion because I wanted to satisfy my wife at that time with the finer things in life with no budget being held back or anything,” he said.

However, he says things were not going so well at home afterwards as his wife was in love with “Ng’echu” and not Prezzo:

“So after tupendane, next was all the Mama Zari vibe. And Mama Zari loved Ng’echu but she hated Prezzo.”

So when they separated in 2012, the rapper fell into depression.

For nearly a year, he says he lost himself and couldn’t leave the house. His body guard brought him whatever he needed.

“I LOST MYSELF. I USED TO HAVE MY BODYGUARD BRINGING ME FOOD, BRINGING ME WHATEVER I NEED IN THE HOUSE. I NEVER LEFT THE HOUSE FOR A WHOLE YEAR. IT WAS LIKE I WAS IN A HOUSE ARREST AND SLOWLY GETTING INTO DEPRESSION.” HE SAID.

He goes on to narrate how he randomly received a phone call that the former Mungiki leader, Maina Njenga (Chairman) wanted to see him in person.

They met at Maina’s home in Karen where he was asked to become a youth leader.

He took the role and served for 9 years.

“He gave me responsibilities and I was in the whole nine years.” He added.

However, just as they were headed to Limuru after the meeting, they were ambushed by the police who had intel of their dealings.

Maina Njenga was arrested and taken into police custody.

However, the duo still managed to maintain contact.

“And the end of the day they arrested chairman. So, the dust settled and we still used to link up with chairman.” He said.
