Some Ghanaians are angry at President Akufo-Addo for refusing to give previous President Mahama credit as he opened the 4-tier Pokuase Interchange on Friday, July 9, 2021.
The President neglected to recognize that the exchange was initiated by Mr Mahama in 2016. He shared a message on his Facebook page that drew a storm of criticism and outrage from Ghanaians.
In reality, the project’s money was obtained by the previous NDC administration, and Ghanaians expected Akufo-Addo to give credit where credit was due.
President Akufo-Addo, on the other hand, stated that he was able to enhance the initial design of a three-tier interchange to a four-tier interchange without incurring additional expenditures. He further stated during the commissioning that he was able to construct three interchanges for $289 million, but Mr Mahama only constructed one interchange for $260 million.

On Friday, 9th July 2021, I commissioned the Four Tier Pokuase Interchange, the first of its kind in Ghana, the first of its kind in West Africa, and the second of its kind in Africa, which will help solve, once and for all, the nightmare endured for several decades by commuters within and outside of this vicinity.
It is important to put on record that the original contract design was for a three-tier interchange. However, through efficient management by my government, the Interchange was modified to a four-tier structure within the same contract sum.
On behalf of the Government and people of Ghana, I express sincere appreciation to the African Development Bank, which jointly provided funds with the Government for the execution of this project. I appeal to the users of the facility, especially drivers, to adhere to the various road safety measures put in place for the safe use of the facility. The modernisation of Ghana is steadily gathering momentum, and I entreat all Ghanaians to join hands in building the Ghana we want.
