Unknown Man Breaks Into Military Camp, Steals Firearm As Soldiers Take Shower

Police in Thika, Kiambu county are in pursuit of an unknown man who broke into a military camp and stole a firearm.

The incident took place at the Twelve Engineer Battalion Thika Barracks on Monday, April 25 at around 6pm.

According to the police statement, the man accessed the standby post and broke the windowpane stealing an AK 47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

The incident was reported by two officers, John Kibaki and Alvin Nyasio, who were stationed at the camp. The two told investigators that the incident happened when they had gone to take a shower some metres away, leaving the station unmanned.

“The officer was working with four others at the said post and during the incident, none was in the post as they had gone to take a shower at a building about 400 meters from the post,” read the police report in part.

The gun was assigned to officer Kenneth Mbae. Also stolen was a mobile phone of make TECNO SPARK black which had no SIM card and belonged to another officer named Kinyua.

vestigators are suspecting a former KDF officer who had been dismissed and escorted from the camp but was seen around later in the evening.

Paul Minai Gichui is said to have been cleared and escorted out of the camp after his dismissal at around 3 pm on Monday. The officers reported that Gichui was later seen in the camp at around 5.30 pm after being escorted out.

Efforts by the officers to recover the firearm were futile. Investigations into the have been transferred to Thika DCI.
