Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has recently been in the headlines for both positive and bad reasons.
The first was a video of him exposing certain government officials who begged him not to say anything negative about the government about the illegalities of small scale mining, which has piqued the curiosity of many Ghanaians.
Twene Jonas, a famous Ghanaian critic resident in the United States also took on the government official, as well as all traditional rulers in Ghana, just weeks after exposing him.
Twene Jonas referred to the Ashanti King as a failure who had accepted a bribe from the government to prevent him from speaking out against illicit mining operations that were destroying our water sources.
Following his critics and insults, other chiefs have cursed Twene Jonas, with one of Asantehene’s chiefs requesting that Jonas fly down to kneel in front of the King to apologize for spewing filth at their chief.
The most recent news regarding the Asantehene is a video of him receiving prayers in an Anglican Church in England.
In the footage, the Asantehene is seen kneeling in front of a white priest who pours oil on his head and rubs the surface of his head with his palm.
The video has attracted mixed reactions from people who view his actions as an insult to tradition and others who see nothing wrong with it from the Christian point of view.
