A Senior Police Officer In Embu Arrested For Raping A Woman In Police Cell

A senior police officer accused of sexually assaulting a female suspect was arrested on Tuesday in Mutunduri, Embu.

Embu police boss Daniel Rukunga said the officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is being held for questioning and will be arraigned.

The woman was raped at Manyatta Police Station where she was being held after she was arrested on fraud claims.

She is recuperating at the Embu Level Five Hospital after undergoing a surgery.

The woman was arrested on Saturday and booked into a cell after a resident complained that she had conned him some cash.

The following day, the officer summoned her into his office where he reportedly raped her.

The victim screamed for help and the officer let her go. She reported the matter at the same police station.

Nominated MCA Margaret Lorna Kariuki condemned the attack and demanded for immediate prosecution of the officer.

She expressed fears that the officer, whom she said is highly influential could compromise those investigating the case if urgent interventions were not made.

Ms Kariuki claimed the victim is fearing for her life because she allegedly been receiving threats since she reported the matter.

“The woman needs police protection after being discharged from hospital,” she said.
