Pep Guardiola’s 82-year-old mother Dolors Sala Carrió has died after contracting the naval coronavirus in Spain.

COVID-19 has infected more than 130,000 people with more than 13,000 deaths making it one of the worst-hit nations in the world.

Last month Guardiola donated €1m to the Angel Soler Daniel Foundation and Medical College of Barcelona for the purchase of equipment to help fight the virus in his home country.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal were among many clubs domestically and abroad who offered their condolences.

City said in a statement:

“The Manchester City family are devastated to report the death today of Pep’s mother, Dolors Sala Carrió, in Manresa, Barcelona, after contracting Corona Virus… Everyone associated with the club sends their most heartfelt sympathy at this most distressing time to Pep, his family and all their friends.”
