The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has reiterated that his outfit is committed to creating ‘one million jobs’ for Ghanaian youth in the next three years.
He said this intervention is a deliberate move by the government to empower the youth in order to ensure economic growth.
“our intention of building an entrepreneurial nation is already known. We aim to empower our youth to be at ease and venture into business. Our focus will remain on establishing a strong value system for entrepreneurship to flourish,”Kofi Ofosu Nkansah told Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7
This is to promote growth in SMEs, support new ventures, and stimulate innovation and start-ups.”
He also noted that the government, as part of its recovery programme and transformation agenda, is easing the constraints on the private sector to enable them to expand and provide jobs for the youth.
“At the strategic level, our comprehensive and holistic response to the employment and jobs issue remains anchored on the private sector.”
The Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah also made a similar assertion last month while speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express Business Edition, he said,
“And when we say we’re targeting to create 1million jobs, we’re not saying every young man should become an entrepreneur. We’re targeting up to 30% of this available workforce that are looking for jobs, that’s about 300,000.
“If you’re able to create about 300,000 businesses within the next three years and they do an average of say 5 jobs on the average. Some are able to do 50, 100, but let’s say they create 5 jobs on the average then you have absorbed that’s about 1.5 million jobs created.
