Mpesa Services To Be Suspended For 12 Hours Till Sunday

Safaricom has announced that the company’s Mpesa services will be suspended for 12 hours from Saturday night, July 18 till Sunday morning, July 19.

According to the firm’s statement, their system is scheduled for an upgrade maintenance between 10pm on Saturday and 10am on Sunday.

During this period, all Mpesa services including airtime purchases will be temporarily suspended.

According to the firm, they are scheduling regular maintenance routines so as to improve the quality of their service delivery especially during the months of June and July.

As on the time of their scheduling, they are doing it a time when they are least likely to affect a majority of their clients.

The number of Mpesa users has been rising tremendously following the government directive in March 2020 appealing to the citizens to resort to mobile money in place of cash as COVID-19 spreads.

In their support statement, the telecom giant waived the fees on transaction costs up to Ksh1,000 to no cost at all.

The firm also recently launched its Bonga for Good Initiative which lets its users redeem their Bonga Points as donations or to purchase foodstuffs.

The program is reported to have benefited over half a million Kenyans during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Safaricom’s financial records, its customers have redeemed over one billion Bonga Points in the past two months.
