A man who died after reportedly being beaten by police officers in Kwale had taken a pregnant woman to a hospital, reports say.

49-year-old Khamis, a boda boda rider, was clobbered by police officers who were enforcing the nationwide curfew on Friday, the first day of the curfew.

According to family members, Khamis received a call from one of his customers who was expectant at around 7:30 pm.

It is on his way back home that he is said to have met officers on patrol at Ujamaa stage on the Mombasa-Lungalunga highway who rained blows on him and one other person whose identity is yet to be established.

Khamis could not get medical attention that night due to the curfew and was only taken to hospital the next day where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police in Matuga have however denied the claims even as Matuga sub-county police commander Francis Mguli said they would investigate.
