Landlady Steals Goods Worth 153K From Tenant Over Rent Arrears

A landlady in Zimmerman appeared before Makadara Law Court on July 15 for allegedly breaking into her tenant’s house to steal his household goods worth Ksh153, 800 over Ksh25,000 the tenant owed her in rent.

Matilda Njoki Ndungu who is reported to have had accomplices who were not in court is said to have broken George Wambugu, her tenant’s door on July 12.

According to Ms Njoki who pleaded not guilty, the said tenant had willingly given her his house keys.

Nairobi News reports that the accused refuted the claims before Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga.

She revealed that Mr. Wambugu had been promising to clear the 25K arrears but failing to keep the promise.

According to her statement, Mr. Wambugu disappeared saying he was going to look for the money but instead showed up with Ksh2,000.

She also accused Mr. Wambugu of fabricating lies so that he wouldn’t pay his rent.

However, this is not the first time the landlady has gotten herself into some trouble.

On July 11, she allegedly stole a phone worth Ksh30,000 from one of her drinking buddies.

In this incidence, she is said to have had an accomplice as well.

Just like in the first case above, she pleaded not guilty before the court of law saying her friend was just framing her because she had turned down his sexual requests.

Ms Njoki was freed on different cash bails summing up to Ksh70,000.

Hearing of the cases is scheduled to commence o October 1, 2020.
