An Anglican Church priest has been arrested by police in Kagio, Kirinyaga County on allegations that he stole a mobile phone.

Hesbon Rurii Mwangi was nabbed at Kagio trading center on Saturday after stealing a phone belonging to his lay leader.

According to Gichugu Sub-County police boss Anthony Mbogo, the clergyman, who has just been recently anointed and currently waiting to be posted to a parish, gave his lay leader a lift in his car.

It is suspected that the 31-year-old removed the lay leader’s phone from her bag and hid it as they were on a parish visit to area widows.

The lay leader told the police that she noticed that her phone was missing when the priest alighted from the vehicle.

Mwangi is currently locked up at Kianyaga police station.
