GSU Cadet Drowns During Swimming Lesson In Embakasi

A General Service Unit (GSU) cadet at Embakasi is reported to have drowned while undertaking swimming lessons with his colleagues.

The 37-year-old man, identified as Wycliffe Geresa had gone swimming about 5kms from the Embakasi GSU training school with his course men when he sunk into the swimming pool.

“At around 16.30hrs, his course men NCO’S special sop course no 3/2021 were having a swimming lesson when one cadet namely Wycliffe Geresa aged 37 years who was swimming with other cadets sunk into the swimming pool,” a police report in our possession read in part.

Geresa was rescued by the swimming pool attendants who rushed him to Riara Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“He was rescued by the swimming pool attendant whereby he was rushed to Riara hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” continued the report.

Confirming the incident, Caroline Theuri who was the officer on duty said officers visited the scene and confirmed the incident.

“The scene was visited by the duty officer and duty NCO Embakasi where the incident was confirmed. The necessary police action was also taken,” she said.

The body was moved to Kenyatta University morgue awaiting postmortem.
