Saturday’s Power Outage Was Just A Small Fault – GRIDCO Debunks DUMSOR Rumors

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has attributed the Saturday evening power outages experienced in some parts of Accra to a technical problem they encountered.

According to the company, a transmission line fell at Trassaco in Accra which resulted in the blackout.

Many residents in Accra on Saturday evening experienced what could be described as unstable power supply characterized by low-current and power line flicker.

Others also experienced a total blackout and took to social media to complain and demand an explanation as to whether “Dumsor” is back or not especially when the lights have been largely unstable in recent weeks.

Part of the statement by GRIDCo on the “Dumsor” scare reads

“At 11:06 pm on Saturday, April 3, 2021, a conductor on the Tema – Accra East transmission line fell at Trasacco, leading to power outages in major parts of the Greater Accra region,”

“The maintenance team was able to work round the clock to restore power to the Mallam, Achimota and Accra Central Bulk Supply Points (BSPs) at about 4:00 am on Sunday, April 4, 2021.”

“Power supply has, however, been reduced to 50% in areas around Trasacco as the team works to permanently fix the fault.”
