Nyeri cops have arrested a drug dealer and robbery suspect who dived into a nearby dam at the time when they busted him on Tuesday, July 14.
According to Nyeri County Police Commander Adiel Nyange, the suspect is a Master’s degree student pursuing Information Technology at JKUAT.
His arrest came after a successful raid at one of his hideouts, Karia Dam, just out of Nyeri Town.
The suspect was ambushed by the dam while awaiting to meet his supplier. He had 40Kgs of marijuana and illicit liquor in his possession at the time .
“We ambushed him at the dam where he was expecting to meet a supplier of the drugs. As soon as he saw us he dumped the drugs and dived into the dam. But our officers pursued and managed to apprehend him and recover the drugs from the water,” the police boss said.
The cops also recovered more drugs to estimated to be worth Ksh55,000 in his other hideout areas in Nyeri’s Asian Quarters and Kamakwa Estates.
According to Mr. Nyange, the suspect rented two houses, one for Ksh15,000 and the other at Ksh8,500 per month both of which he used to brew illicit alcohol and distribute the drugs.
“The young man is a Master’s dtudent as far as his family knows but in Nyeri he is a thug,” Nyange commented.
Under different charges, the suspect was also found with a bunch of keys which he is believed to have used to break into people’s houses in robberies.
Lining up two more suspects, the officers recovered five motorcycles which they believed had been stolen and used in the robberies.
The three suspects are in police custody to aid the law enforcement officers pursue further investigations.
