Coronavirus Kills More Than 5,000 Americans With Over 215,000 Testing Positive

A pandemic of the novel coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 47,000 people around the world, including at least 5,116 people in the United States.

Globally, more than 935,000 people have been diagnosed with the new respiratory virus, which causes an illness known officially as COVID-19.

Over 193,700 of those patients have recovered, according to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

The U.S. has by far the highest national tally in the world with over 216,000 confirmed cases.

The number has exploded in recent days with it crossing 1,000 exactly one week prior and then 2,000 on Sunday. As of tonight, it was at least 5,116, including about 1 in 5 in New York City.
