Chairman Wontumi Says Mahama’s Election Petition Will Fall Inside Water

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi has described the petition filed by the National Democratic Congress to challenge the outcome of the 2020 Presidential election at the Apex court, as a petition which is dead on arrival.

In an interview with Wontumionline.com, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi explained that “before judges are even empaneled to sit on the case, I can tell you that the NDC’s petition will fall inside water. It won’t change the outcome of the results.”

The flagbearer of the NDC, Mr. John Mahama, on Wednesday formally filed a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the December 7, 2020, presidential election.

The lawsuit follows weeks of street protests over alleged voter fraud and irregularities in the just-ended polls.

Mr. Mahama’s lawyers following the party‘s audit of the 2020 Presidential results “and extensive consultations with the National Executive Committee and Council of Elders of the party” filed the suit.

In a statement, the NDC said the petition details “serious violations of the 1992 Constitution by the Electoral Commission and its Chairperson and Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensa in the conduct of their constitutional and legal responsibilities.”
