The Editor-in-Chief of the popular and reputable New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has fired back at Former President J. J Rawlings after the latter tagged him as being deceitful. The two have since been at loggerheads with each other.
“Donât provoke me!!! Mr Rawlings, please stay in your corner,” he told Rawlings.
The Former President accused the renowned Journalist of making false claims to the National Reconciliation Commission (NRC) about one of the coup plotters who wanted to overthrow his regime. Kweku Baako had earlier claimed that Rawlings and his men at the time of his regime had tortured one of the coup plotters.
Rawlings however denied this allegation and indicated that the popular Journalist was only making such libelous and scurrilous statements about him to tarnish his image.
âNobody did any such thing (torture) and professional soldiers donât do things like that actually,â
He also indicated that Kweku Baako at the time the NRC was sitting, wanted Ben Ephson, the editor of the Daily Dispatch to join him at the NRC in making such false claims and Ben Ephson refused to be part of it.
“I think he [Ben Ephson] knew this kind of makeup wasnât good enoughâ¦just to poison the atmosphere against us”.
However, Kweku Baako has a different view. He referred to his archives to back his claim that the former President was rather inaccurate.
He however did not blame him too much as he claimed that the former president was probably becoming forgetful because he was aging.
Speaking to Kwame Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, he said,
“I will not blame him too much; probably he might have forgotten some of the things because of old age. Iâm prepared to be charitable; maybe his recollection is limited or down,”
