A researcher at Oxford University has said that more than a million doses of their experimental Covid-19 vaccine can be produced by September.
However, the said Scientist identified as Adrian Hill says this could be a very low amount if the positive cases of the virus keep rising.
In reference to the manufacturing capability of the facility’s partner AstraZeneca, this is what Hill had to say:
“There might be a million doses manufactured by September: that now seems like a remarkable underestimate given the scale of what’s going on,” he said.
The timing will also be dependent on how quickly they will be able to to run and complete the late-stage trials of the vaccine.
“CERTAINLY THERE’LL BE A MILLION DOSES AROUND IN SEPTEMBER. WHAT’S LESS PREDICTABLE THAN THE MANUFACTURING SCALE-UP IS THE INCIDENCE OF DISEASE, SO WHEN THERE’LL BE AN ENDPOINT.” HE ADDED.
According to Hill, more vaccines are likely to be made available by the end of the year.
