Two EC Officials Arrested For Registering People Privately

Two officials have been arrested by the Ghana Police for registering people privately in their homes without the consent of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The culprits  identified as Mumuni Abilla Yussif; 26, and Mohammad Yushaw Kongsoha; 32, who at the time of the arrest had secretly registered 12 people in their homes after the usual time for the registration was over.

Mr Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, who is the Northern Regional Crime Officer indicated that the arrest was carried out when information reached the police that Munmuni, a data entry clerk at Kpanshegu Registration cluster in the North East Gonja district of the Savannah region was registering people at his home at Vitttin in Tamale Metropolis.

Upon a thorough search, one Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) device was found in Mumuni’s room . He also added that further investigation led to the arrest of the accomplice Mohammed, a registration officer at the Kpanshegu registration cluster.

“The two suspects are currently in the custody of the police and are assisting with investigation,” he said.
