Award-winning Kenyan musician Suzanna Owiyo has come under heavy criticism from Kenyans On Twitter (KoT) after her remarks on police brutality.
The singer took to Twitter to voice her concern after a day of chaos across the country on the first day of a curfew directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
By 7 pm on Friday evening, most Kenyans were still stranded on the roads trying to get to their homes with the police not sparing anyone.
After the melee, Owiyo labeled “Wanjiku’s” as “Vichwa Ngumu” for failing to abide by the President’s order not to be out by 7 pm.

However, this did not go down well with some of her followers who accused her of supporting police brutality.
Is Suzanna Owiyo’s mind corrupted as this one thinks?
When a Luo speak like this even after knowing how long we have fought and lost comrades in the name of #PoliceBrutality in this Country…then kwili Suzanna your mind is corrupted. https://t.co/HuLNaLO3Ro

Or just maybe a middle-class mentality?
Shame on you Suzanna. Typical middle class mind set. Innocent Kenyans whose only crime is hustling to fetch basic needs for their family are being brutalized by police & you think they are defying orders. No one would refuse to stay home if gava provided food, security & shelter https://t.co/xaCPo3C7KL

Some supported her line of thought
You always support the wrong people. On this, Suzanna is quite ignorant to the fact that penalties for contravention of a curfew do not include clobbering.

Disconnect?
WOAH..Such a disconnect . My safety? safety from who? the police we pay through taxes?..when did i become their enemy? Has my life narrowed down to Corona or GSU?
