Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been impeached.
88 MCAs voted for the ouster motion on Thursday afternoon to kick out Sonko with only two voting against the motion and two abstaining.
The impeachment vote sailed through virtually amid claims by 21 MCAs that their accounts had been logged in without their knowledge.
The Ward Representatives who were holed up with Sonko in Kwale vowed that they would head to court to challenge the controversial vote.
If the Senate upholds the assembly’s decision Nairobi residents will be heading back to the ballot to elect a new governor since the city has no deputy governor.
Sonko refused to appoint a deputy following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe.
