“Queen Sono”, the first African Series on Netflix is proving to be a hit on the streaming site just days after it’s premiere.
The six-episode TV thriller stars South African Pearl Thusi as the eponymous secret agent.
“I’ve always been the face of a strong black African woman. It’s not new to me, but I now represent a character on the screen who I think reflects all the women in Africa who are strong black African women”, the lead actor said.
The series, written and directed by South African Stand-up comedian Kagiso Lediga, is shot in several African countries and also has several languages.
The drama centres on Queen Sono trying to uncover the truth behind the death of her mother, who was a hero of South Africa’s anti-apartheid struggle.
