Secular singer Otile Brown’s music video, Dusuma is the most-watched by Kenyans on YouTube.

According to the YouTube survey, the video by Brown – whose real name is Jacob Obunga – which was released in June this year, has already hit 16 million views.

The report is prepared by YouTube annually to showcase how many Kenyans watch certain music videos.

It analyses video of artistes – Kenyan and international – that have the most views from Kenyans.

Otile’s hit, Dusuma gained popularity after a social media challenge pushed it past the million mark in three months.

 

Tanzanian musician Raymond Shaban Mwakyusa aka Rayvanny also emerged among the top five. His song Teamo was the second most-watched music video on YouTube by Kenyans.

The love song was released in February, just before Valentine’s Day. Tanzania’s Harmonize song, Jeje, is the third most-watched music video.

Kenya’s boy band Sauti Sol emerged fourth in the list with their single Suzanna. The song was released when the group had just signed a deal with Universal Music Africa.

Gere by Kenyan singer Tanasha Donna featuring Diamond Platnumz is the fifth most-watched music video. The song was viewed over a million times in 13 hours.

Femi One’s collaboration with Mejja, Utawezana, is the sixth most-watched music video. The song gained popularity after a video featuring Azziad Nasenya dancing to it went viral, creating a dance challenge among Kenyans.

Other popular songs on the YouTube list include Life is Good by Future featuring Drake and Quarantine by Wasafi featuring Diamond Platnumz, Rayvanny and other musicians.

El-Shaddai by H_art the Band also won Kenyans’ hearts with its message of creating awareness on mental health. Kenyans love for reality shows was also brought to the fore with Dine with the Murayas Season 2 topping the list of most-watched non-music videos.

Social media was abuzz when it was said that Size 8 and her husband DJ Mo were having domestic squabbles. This led to many Kenyans turning to their YouTube channel to find out the truth.

Comedian Flaqo’s ‘Mama Otis/Otis Amefail Exams’ skit was number two on the list. The comedian is known for playing multiple characters in one piece.

Mama Otis portrays a mother with a no-nonsense attitude which most Kenyans can relate to.
