68-year-old first time mother successfully gives birth to twins.
A hospital in Nigeria has announced the delivery of a set of twins from an elderly couple. Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) broke the good news on Sunday, April 19, 2020, via its official page on Twitter.
It also gave details about the new parents and the birth of the twins.
The hospital explained the mother of twins was a 68-year-old woman.
According to the health facility, it was the woman’s first time to carry a pregnancy and she successfully delivered her twins.
The hospital noted the new mother got pregnant through In Vitro Fertilisation popularly called IVF.
The cesarean section was done at 37 weeks on Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
The hospital said:
The IVF and embryo transfer were done at an outside facility. She was thereafter referred to LUTH at early gestation and subsequently managed till term. This is the first in LUTH, Nigeria, and Africa! Mother and babies are doing well.
In other news, a woman from India, presumed to be over 70-year-old from Sangod, India gave birth prematurely to a baby girl through IVF.
The woman named Prabha Devi gave birth to the baby at six and a half months old at Kinkar Hospital of Kota on Saturday, October 12, 2019.
The fetus was delivered by Dr Kinker through C-section after they found out that the baby was under stress during a consultation.
The woman’s health was also in danger since she was left with a single lung after she suffered tuberculosis 45 years ago. She also had hypertension.
