‘Not Funny At All,’ Jua Cali Says Njugush Is A Skit Maker Not A Comedian

Just a day after Kenyans on Twitter dragged Njugush for his comedy, Kenyan genge star Jua Cali has joined the fray, giving his two cents on what he really thinks about Njugush’s shtick.

He claimed that the former House Helps of Kawangware star cannot claim the throne of stand-up comedy because he is a skit maker rather than a stand-up comedian.

“Njugush ni boy wangu but hakuna comedian hapo, not funny at all,” Jua Cali said on Twitter.

“Stand up ni art form you need to study it fully before ujirushe ndani ni art form moja very clever very witty si ya kila mtu,”

Jua Cali contended that, unlike skits, stand-up comedy is a different animal that necessitates wit, creativity, and a lot of practice to master.

“Fans wa Njugush na Njugush poleni sana kama hio tweet ilicome out harsh hio haikua intention napenda Skits za Njugush ni fire  ni vile tu StandUp ni ballgame ingine noma but polepole with practice NJUGUSH will become one of the Greats.” he added.

“Let’s come together StandUp ni artform inataka patience na a lot of resources kama tu music industry but done right hapo kuna doe kuruka!!! If we put our heads together tutatoboa.”

The sentiments expressed by the former chart-topping rapper come just days after Njugush and his wife hosted a sold-out show in Australia.

The show in Australia elicited mixed reactions on the Kenyan internet, particularly after a showgoer tweeted a video of Njugush struggling with a dull audience.

The Tweet, which has since gone viral, has elicited a slew of responses from Kenyans eager to weigh in.

According to Sauti Sol’s Bien, there is nothing wrong with Njugush, and critics should give him a break.

“Njugush ako tu sawa, I have nothing but respect for this man and his wife, legacy over everything,” Bien Tweeted.

Since 2020, the comedian and his wife have performed a string of sold-out shows throughout Kenya, most notably at the Garden City, KICC, and, more recently, London and Australia.
