Karen Residents Propose The Closure Of Betty Kyalo’s Restaurant ‘The summer house’ Citing Noise Pollution

Karen Residents have proposed the closure of Betty Kyalo’s new restaurant ‘The summer house’ over noise pollution.

In a statement dated November 25 from the Karen Lang’ata District Association addressed to the Nairobi City County Government, the residents express their displeasure with The Summer House.

They say the restaurant has caused unprecedented noise pollution by playing loud music at night, causing inconvenience and discomfort to those who live near it.

“We are aggrieved that The Summer House, which opened its doors to the public two months ago, did not follow the prerequisite process when seeking to develop the property as is required by the law.”

The association also claims there was no public participation for the residents to give their opinion before the establishment of the entertainment joint.

This comes after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja issued a directive for closure of clubs in residential areas.

The governor issued a warning for clubs in residential areas to stop playing music and close by 10 pm. Police on patrol however revoked the licenses of clubs that did not adhere to the directive.

Among the nightclubs whose licences were revoked are 1824, Club 909, CK Club, X millionaires Club, Oyster Bay, Edu’s Bar, Pitstop Grill and Claret Lounge.

The grand opening of ‘The summer house’ was this month and Nigerian superstar Patoranking graced the event. In attendance were also Kenyan celebrities including president William Ruto’s children.
