Canadian rapper Drake has yet again emerged the most listened to artist in Kenya on the Spotify music streaming platform.
In the year-end Spotify Wrapped statistics released by the global platform on Wednesday, the ‘Knife Talk’ rapper led the Top 10 Most Streamed Artists in Kenya list, after topping the list again last year.
Nigerian singer Burna Boy, who is the only African artist in the top five most streamed artists locally, emerged second, followed by Chris Brown and The Weeknd while Future closed the top five.
All the five released albums in 2022, which was attributed as a likely factor for their high streams in the country.
Drake dropped two albums this year alone, ‘Her Loss’ (with American rapper 21 Savage) and ‘Honestly, Nevermind’, while Burna Boy released ‘Love, Damini’, Chris Bown ‘Breezy’, The Weeknd ‘Dawn FM’ and Future released ‘I Never Liked You’.
The other stars in the Top 10 list are American rappers Lil Baby and Gunna, Nigerian star Fireboy DML, Kendrick Lamar and Justin Bieber.
In the Kenyan artists category on the other hand, Afropop boy band Sauti Sol was the most listened to by Kenyans, followed by Wakadinali, Buruklyn Boyz, Otile Brown and Nyashinski.
Nviiri the Storyteller, Bensoul, Bien, Ajay and Khaligraph Jones closed the Top 10.
