Since Akon came out to deny any knowledge about the widely reported album ‘Akon and friends,’ there have been reactions from a section of Ghanaians towards the legitimacy of the project.
The album which was reported as a project spearheaded by American singer and songwriter Akon had a host of reggae and dancehall artists, including Sean Paul, Elephant Man, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Capleton, Wayne Wonder, Peetah Morgan, Tommy Lee Sparta, Shatta Wale and several other overseas-based artists.
Confusion set in as a result of Akon’s dissociation from the much-publicized album as SM fans [the fan army for Ghana’s Shatta Wale] were already hyped about it.
Checks by OMGVoice.com indicate that the project is actually legit just that, information about it was miscommunicated.
The erroneous reports were carried by several news publishers including the official website of the BET.
In addition, the brain behind the ‘Akon And Friends’ project, Contractor Music Group retweeted links to write-ups that were grossly misleading thereby intensifying the hoax.
Contractor Music Group has since decided to drop Akon after his reaction, however, the project still stands.
So yes, Shatta Wale is really on such a project but it just wasn’t put together by Akon.
The release of Akon and Friends follows several successful projects by Contractor Music stretching back over the past four years.
