See Gbege!

Yesterday, FIFA disciplinary committee announced it will be fining Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) over its activities in the match against Algeria. The match was played on November 10th and FIFA declared that Nigeria will forfeit the 3 points it got in the match after winning Algeria by 3 goals. NFF also received a fine of CHF 6,000.

But what was NFF’s offence?

Fielding an ineligible player. Our football federation fielded  Abdullahi Shehu for the match against Algeria. Shehu had received two yellow cards and was supposed to be serving a match ban. This made him ineligible to play against Algeria.

The lucky part is Nigeria already qualified before the Algeria match.

Or we would have been talking about another story entirely right now.

The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, apologised to Nigerians on Twitter.

He went on to assure Nigerians that this mistake will never happen again

But how hard is it to keep track of players who pick up cards, injury and match bans?

If we hadn’t qualified before the Algeria match, will the President of the NFF still apologise and give us back our World Cup ticket?

We would have dealt with him!

We really need to do better. Such mistakes will cost us dearly in the future!
