Losing weight has become something that a lot of Ghanaians have recently become interested in.

Some have therefore taken to exercise, which is good, whiles the rest have resorted to weight loss drugs, which obviously have a lot of side-effects.

If I am to tell you that some foods right here in our diets can help you lose weight, will you believe? Yes, it’s true, and they are very common too. Weight loss is basically just a process of reducing the fat profile of your body.

It doesn’t mean starvation but rather eating healthy.

Below are some common foods in Ghana that can help you lose weight.


1. Oats

Oats are said to contain what is called insoluble fibre. This gives you a feeling of satiation and prevents you from feeling hungry for a long time. That means you won’t be tempted to eat just anyhow. It also does not add any calories to your body and therefore helps in reducing the fat percentage of your body.

2. Vegetables

Yes, our almighty veggies. Vegetables are low in calories but high in essential minerals and vitamins that improve the metabolism of the body. They contain no fats and their carbohydrate count id very low. Vegetables like;  carrots, cabbage, spinach, peas, beans etc. are excellent sources of minerals while being low on calories.

3. Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits are said to be very good fat burners since they contain Vitamin C which is known to help burn fat. They provide the body with energy to boost its metabolism and enhance its fat burnong process. Eating fruits in the morning is one sure way of burning that fat in your body.

Oranges, Grape fruit, Tangerines, Lemon and Fresh Lime are very good citrus fruits you can eat each day. You can also eat Tomatoes, Apples, Grapes and Cherries which are also good sources of vitamin C.

4. Fish

Fish is a great source of high quality protein and Omega-3 fatty acids which are known as healthy fats. It’s also low on saturated fat and calories. Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines and Tuna are not only tasty but are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids.

Yes, Eggs. Forget the myths surrounding them, eggs are one of the most healthiest foods with the york the most nutricious. Eggs are high on the satiety index which means they can make you feel full and eat less overall calories leading to a drop in your fat profile.
